In general there are three different kind of cue tips. The first group are tips made of cowhide (Triumph, Triangle,...etc.). These tips are single layer and about 7mm thick. The hardness of these tips can differ from soft to medium, depending on the leather type and the production process. The second group are laminated cue tips. These tips are made of pigskin which is about 1mm thick and produced as a multilayer product. Their hardness may vary from soft over medium to hard. All laminated tips offer longer wear and better performance in comparison to tips made of cowhide. The third group of tips are made of synthetic material like phenol and do belong to the hardest tips ever made. Ideal choice for jump-break cues.
